Childress Vineyards

Some people know of Richard Childress from his NASCAR team, Richard Childress Racing (RCR), which began in his garage in 1969 and grew into a wildly successful business over five decades. In addition to his successes in the NASCAR industry, he’s also got quite the success story in the wine industry.

Childress Vineyards opened in Lexington, North Carolina in 2004, fulfilling Richard’s lifelong dream to own a world-class winery. His love for wine began in California when he first began racing, when he and his friends would visit wineries in the area. He developed both of his passions into businesses and is now one of the wealthiest men in North Carolina.

Since the early 2000’s, the wine industry in North Carolina has seen a rapid rise in wineries, with Childress Vineyards being one of the most prominent leaders of this rise. On 72 acres and featuring over 30 selections of wines, the vineyard is one of Carolina locals’ favorite destinations. Childress Vineyards has won a number of gold metals from wine competitions from New York to California, totaling over 750 medals since the wineries opening in 2004.

The vineyard hosts events year-round in addition to their wine tastings, like classes on wine and food pairing, barrel tasting, dinners and dances, and some that may not even be related to wine! An upcoming event in early 2018 is a class educating on the benefits of essential oils – of course, you’re still free to sip while participating. The winery also has a bistro with a seasonal lunch and dessert menu that changes depending on what fresh ingredients are available at that time of year. You can make reservations, order wine to ship to your home, see current and upcoming events, and look at the selection of wines on the Childress Vineyards website.
